Items Needed . . .
1. Clothes for Cape Code evacuees. NEMA is handling food and medical/toiletry supplies. The base is handling linens. That seems fairly well organized. The Salvation Army is handling clothes. But they need clothes, so we're putting together boxes to send. If possible, separate clothes into boxes and mark the boxes CAPE MENS or CAPE WOMENS, or CAPE KIDS. This is to distinguish what goes to the Cape and what goes to NOLA. They also need toys/books at the cape. If it's toys of books, please mark it NON-CLOTHING. We will send some to the Cape and some to NOLA.
The evacuees at the Cape will need warm fall clothes. They are coming from a 100 degree environment and will find out weather VERY cold. So sweatshirts, sweaters, pants, etc. We'll have another truck later this week. If you're going to the cape, please let us know so we can give you a couple of boxes. The drop site is at a private home right outside of Otis. They are gathering stuff from all over the cape, but they still need our
help.
2. NOLA relief. Despite the news which tells us that they've got everything under control, the Red Cross sites on the front line have almost nothing to work with. My niece is in constant contact with her boss down in Lafayette LA and she says she needs EVERYTHING. See below for a list of things needed. If you want to give money instead, that's OK. We'll find a way to get the supplies to the front line. We've got people lining up trucks. But we now have an offer of a semi-truck, which will go next week. The trucks can carry clothes and childcare items such as bouncy baby chairs and the like. If you want to send your own FedEx packages, I have addresses and contact info for churches and relief operations that can receive the packages.
Here's a list of items assembled from various websites and media. Add your own ideas. I've *starred* the items that have been requested from the most locations.
